How We Met

June 1st, 1990 was a hot summer evening. We each had taken our two children to Merrifield Park to play. As it was getting dark, the kids got into a water fight at the drinking fountain. We both went over to break it up and some old man sitting on a bench said "that's a nice family you've got there". Of course he did not know that we weren't together...yet! We talked and exchanged numbers and when we got home we talked on the phone for hours. We fell for each other immediately.
A year and one month later we were married and began raising a blended family against all odds. We became best friends and that's probably why we succeeded. The age difference never really mattered. We never argued about money. The trait that we each admired about the other right away was responsibility, we knew responsible people honor commitments.

ABOUT SHELLY

I've always said that I'm an old-fashioned girl. I should've been born long ago in times of big old houses and fancy dresses. I love antiques, decorating, crafts and searching yard sales or antique stores for just the right item. At PAC Bannerworks I supervise the sewing room. Sewing and cooking are actually things I enjoy at times. Animals are a favorite with me, especially my two Cocker Spaniels. My husband says I'm a spoiled Mercedes brat ... Na ... Naa ... Naaaa! I must admit that I do like cruising around on those hot summer days with my top down - on the CAR!

In the late 70's and early 80's I enjoyed Jeeps and motorcycles. I owned a 1979 Jeep CJ5 along with Kawasaki 175 and 350 enduros (street legal trail motorcycles). I enjoyed exploring creeks, trails, fields and woods. The reason that I was attracted to the Jeep was because it had off road capabilities too ... just like the trail bikes.
- Along came marriage and the family years, so those things gave way to more practical and safer means of transportation ... like cars and minivans. It was a good decision to make at the time, but I must say that I missed the Jeep and Kawasakis over the years. I think those vehicles helped me connect with one thing that I really enjoyed - the outdoors.
- The kids have grown up and gone their own way and I have returned to one of my old loves.On July 1st, 2004 I was reunited with a Jeep. Then, on one of those cold snowy mornings when the roads were icy, Shelly drove my Jeep to work. She was so impressed with how safe it made her feel that she bought one in Februrary 2007 to use for her winter vehicle. Besides winter driving, the Jeeps are also a great choice for those rough roads and trails at the lake and surrounding Amish country.
- I don't forsee ever being without one again.What I've always liked about the Jeep is that it's a simple, compact, utility vehicle with good off road capability. It has a complete roll cage and the top and doors come off. I like the retro look and truck-like handling.
